Candidate for Monmouth County Sheriff

Eric Brophy graduated from the University of Scranton with a degree in Criminal Justice and subsequently graduated from Seton Hall University School of Law. Mr. Brophy is currently managing member of Diegnan & Brophy, LLC., a law firm based out of Wall Township.

Mr. Brophy previously served as Municipal Prosecutor in Wall Township, where he used his background in criminal justice to work hand in hand with law enforcement and the courts. Mr. Brophy also currently serves as President of the Wall Township Chamber of Commerce and serves on the Wall Township Economic Development Committee.

As Sheriff, Mr. Brophy would use his experience with law enforcement and small businesses to ensure that the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office remains vigilant in keeping Monmouth County residents safe, but doing so in the most cost-efficient manner possible.

Active in his community, Mr. Brophy serves on the Board of Trustees at Allaire County Club Estates in Wall, the Board of Trustees for the Ocean Ridge Condominium Association in Sea Bright and is a lifetime member of the Order of the Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh of the Jersey Shore in Belmar and the Wall Historical Society. Mr. Brophy also serves on the alumni boards of both his alma maters. Mr. Brophy currently lives in Wall Township with his wife Elaine and their two sons.

"My goals are to consolidate services, cost-savings in the sheriffs office and crime reduction across the county.

Consolidate services includes offering 911 and dispatch services to municipalities as well as providing mutual police aid to municipalities who may have suffered reductions in force due to attrition, layoffs or furloughs.

Cost-savings will be realized throughout the sheriff’s office. The proposed budget submitted to the Freeholders by the acting Sheriff is rife with waste which will require cost cutting in these difficult economic times.

Crime Reduction will be achieved through the effective and efficient use of the tools available to the Sheriff’s Office. Specifically, part of the plan is to use sheriff’s officers for functions other than monitoring courts, performing administrative duties and/or corrections. We would like to use some of the intelligence gained from corrections and other officers to help combat the difficult issue of gang presence and violence across Monmouth County. In addition, we would like to move some officers to patrol positions as is done in many N. Jersey communities to increase a police presence in some of our most dangerous neighborhoods."
